“Activity on the sun’s surface gives us on Earth the most spectacular light show known to man: the aurora borealis or northern lights. They are bands of light, caused by charged solar particles’ interaction with Earth’s magnetic field. They glow, ripple and enchant those those lucky enough to see the phenomenon with their own eyes. Witnessing the aurora borealis is an experience not to miss.”

I’d like to wish my lovely niece Twyla a very special happy birthday. Her mother told us that she was born 20~something years ago in the late hours of the 16th of May. 11 o’clock if I can recall, well I shot this photo on May 16th at around 11 PM. Happy Birthday Twyla I love yah!

Aurora Borealis (or the northern lights)

A natural light display in the sky particularly in the high latitude regions caused by the collision of energetic charged particles with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere(thermosphere). The charged particles originate in the magnetosphere and solar wind and, on Earth, are directed by the Earth’s magnetic field into the atmosphere. (wiki)

Sorry for the bad quality. I was dumbfounded when I saw it. My jaw literally dropped. I wasn’t able to set my camera properly and I don’t have my tripod with me. I even took this photo with the highest iso (that is ISO 25600). Stupid, stupid me.

I saw this on my way home from the Be Careful with my Heart Edmonton show last night. Simply breathtaking.
